According to numerous sources, D.C. United have completed the signing of Poland international midfielder Mateusz Klich from Leeds United.

According to MOT Leeds News, the 32-year-old has made the switch and will become a designated player. The fan favourite, signed by Marcelo Bielsa, has made 195 appearances since his switch to Yorkshire in 2017. He was a mainstay in the side that narrowly missed out on promotion. Still, the heartbreak of the play-offs spurred the side on and Klich was integral in the following season when Leeds returned to the top flight after 16 years away from the top flight, Winning the league title and being promoted to the Premier League as Champions.

It was believed the former Polish International was upset about his lack of playing time and stated in his goodbye tweet to fans that he wanted to play more regularly. Leeds coach Jesse Marsch for whatever reasons had limited the midfielder to late substitute appearances and that appeared to be the beginning of the end for ‘Klichy’ at Elland Road.

The Whites must now prepare for life without the influential midfielder with many fans believing the club will need to bring somebody in to replace him. Jess Marsch believes the club has enough ‘quality’ in the central areas to manage with the loss but I’m not so sure. Adam Forshaw is in and out of the side too much with injury, leaving just Tyler Adams, Marc Roca and Sam Greenwood as regular first-team midfielders.

January will be a big month for Leeds and the club must make sure they get the window done correctly.
