Neil Kilkenny turned his emergency loan into a full time contract on Monday and admitted that when Leeds came asking, he had no doubt but to say yes.

The Australian International signed on Friday as emergency loan cover as Dennis Wise looked to cope with injuries and suspensions ahead of Saturday’s Northampton Town fixture, a match in which the former Birmingham City midfielder picked up the man of the match award for a sterling performance. Kilkenny signed his three-and-a-half year deal on Monday morning and admitted that once Dennis Wise got in touch, there was only one destination in his mind.

Speaking to the official website, Leedsunited.com Kilkenny said:

‘There were a few clubs interested, but once I heard from the manager here I couldn’t turn it down.

‘The manager was a great midfielder and the team are doing well. I thought I could learn a lot from the manager and it could only make my game better.’

When asked about his debut, he was delighted:

‘I came in and the manager said he was going to play me, and I was taking free-kicks and corners, I jumped at the chance.

‘It was nice to win the game, you can’t ask for much more that. Most teams will come here and play 4-5-1 – I noticed that – and we had a lot of possession and had to break them down.’

A great signing for us, nice one Dennis!
