RB Leipzig’s commercial sporting director Florian Scholz has hinted at potential legal action against Leeds United over the transfer of Jean-Kevin Augustin.

The second half of last season saw Augustin endure a hugely frustrating loan spell at Elland Road, during which time he made just three substitute appearances while struggling for fitness.

Despite Augustin’s problems, Leeds were able to secure Premier League promotion as Championship title winners, and it has previously been reported that securing that return to the top-flight, a clause in Augustin’s loan deal meant that the club would have to sign the striker for a fee of £17.7million.

Obviously that has yet to happen, and it seems as though Leipzig are far from happy about that, as discussing the situation around Augustin, Scholz told German outlet SportBuzzer: “The legal situation is clear.

“Leeds is currently in the process of spending a lot of money on the transfer market but does not stand by its contractual obligations. We are ready to take further steps.”

Given his troubles in Yorkshire earlier in the year, Leeds are unlikely to want Augustin back this summer, and probably don’t need him following the signing of Rodrigo.

Regardless of that, the Whites will be desperate not to have pay out that sort of amount for Augustin as compensation for Leipzig, even if they do not have give the striker a place in Marcelo Bielsa’s side.

It does seem as though Leeds are not done for business in the summer transfer window, and you do feel one or two new recruits could still be vital to Leeds’ chances of being competitive in the Premier League this season.

Consequentially being forced to pay out to Leipzig for Augustin could put a big dent in their chances this season, so you imagine they will not be lying down over this, and it would not be a surprise to see it develop into a saga that runs and runs.
