The Yorkshire Evening Post has suggested that Ken Bates is not attempting to re-purchase the home of Leeds United.

The debts of the club under the previous regime saw the stadium at Elland Road, and the training ground at Thorp Arch sold off to various companies to attempt to raise capital as Risdale/O’Leary wasted millions chasing that Champions League dream.

It was suggested in the media that Bates was looking at re-purchasing the stadium that saw more people through the doors than any other League One club, even those fallen giants Nottingham Forest, undoubtedly set a profit-boosting upturn in profits now they are slightly higher up the league table chain.

Ken Bates told the YEP:

Bates told the YEP: “The allegation that we’ve bought back the ground is absolute rubbish. The long and short of this is that we haven’t bought the ground back and we don’t own it. The ownership hasn’t changed at all.”
