Leeds are in talks with Real Sociedad over the signing of defender Diego Llorente, Sky Sport reporter Bryan Swanson has claimed.

The Championship title winners have already signed on centre back this summer in the form of Robin Koch, but are in need of some cover for the former Freiburg man and club captain Liam Cooper at the centre of their defence, something it appears as though they are about to get.

According to Swanson’s latest update, Leeds are now holding advanced negotiations with Sociedad over a move for the 27-year-old, and it is thought that a deal is close to completion.

A graduate of Real Madrid’s academy, Llorente made a handful of first-team appearances for the Spanish giants, and also spent time on loan in La Liga with Rayo Vallecano and Malaga before making a permanent move to Sociedad in the summer of 2017.

Since then, the centre back has made 88 appearances in all competitions for his current club, scoring on eight occasions.

While it remains to be seen how much Leeds have paid for the five-time Spanish international, there are two years remaining on his current deal with Sociedad, meaning the La Liga outfit will be in a reasonably strong position to negotiate this deal.

With Leeds having been short on cover at centre back, this is certainly a position you feel as though they still needed to recruit in, and it now looks as though they have done that well.

Llorente is a player with plenty of top flight experience, and at 27-years-old, has plenty of career left ahead of him, meaning that in many ways, it could be argued that he is just the sort of player Leeds needed to fill that vacant role in their squad.
