Leeds United are reportedly looking to add former Manchester United coach Chris Armas to the backroom staff, after the departure of Mark Jackson.

As per LeedsLive, The Whites have been searching for Mark Jackson’s replacement since the former U23s coach departed to take over as head coach at League One side, Mk Dons a month ago. A recent report claims that a deal for Chris Armas has all but been finalised pending visa approval. Armas was heavily linked with the role at Leeds around six months ago but opted to return to America.

The former midfielder spent his 11-year playing career at LA Galaxy and Chicago Fire, racking up 273 appearances and 12 goals in his homeland.

He was capped 66 times for the United States, winning the CONCACAF Gold Cup twice in 2002 and 2005, and was also voted US Soccer Athlete of the Year in 2000. He was very successful at club level, winning several trophies which include the MLS Cup in 1998. He was named in the MLS Best XI on five occasions, and in the MLS All-Star side on a further six occasions.

The Leeds coach knows Armas very well from their three years together at New York Red Bulls, where he became assistant to Marsch and subsequently replaced him as manager in the summer of 2018. The 50-year-old was in charge of over 70 games there and won the MLS Supporters Shield in 2018. His team contained Leeds midfielder Tyler Adams, who came through the youth ranks at New York Red Bulls.

His latest role was at Manchester United, where he acted as assistant to Ralf Rangnick, but left Old Trafford in July 2022, when Erik Ten Hag became the manager.
