Amidst heavy rumours of a move to Newcastle United, Jack Harrison gave a non-committal answer when asked about his future during the post-match interview for the pre-season game vs Aston Villa.

The interviewer concluded his interview with the question, “tell us what we all wanna hear: you’re staying put right?” Harrison’s response was this:

“We’ll see, we’ll see what happens, but no, it’s good so far.”

So what can we take from that question?

Maybe a bit more than one might think.

Of course, “we’ll see what happens” shows that the winger is unsure, but it may also show that it’s out of his hands: clearly, some contact has been made by another club – presumably Newcastle – and his agent may be more involved in the deal than the player himself.

“It’s good so far” has to be good from a Leeds viewpoint: Harrison seems to think he’ll stay. Of course, players’ comments during a transfer window should rarely be taken as gospel, but at least this suggests that the move is not imminent by any means.

Jack Harrison has been an important player for Leeds United since joining on loan in 2018 and was the side’s second-highest scorer last season. His goals included a hat-trick against West Ham and the all-important last-minute winner to seal a place in the Premier League in 2022/23, away at Brentford.
