“It’s in my blood”: Former Leeds United icon sends passionate message

|

Leeds United have had some popular players over the years and Lucas Radebe certainly falls into that category.

The centre-back was an unknown in this country when he joined from South African side Kaizer Chiefs in 1994 but he would go on to be an icon at Elland Road – making over 250 appearances in an 11-year period before he retired.

As well as Radebe being loved by the support, it’s clear that he still has a lot of affection for the club too. That’s after he was asked in a Q&A with the club’s official site whether he still keeps an eye out for the Leeds results and his answer was emphatic.

I follow Leeds through and through, it’s in my blood. Last night I was watching another episode of Amazon’s Take Me Home: Leeds United, which is absolutely brilliant. I don’t think I’ll stop being part of the club.

Most of my life I’ve spent in Leeds, I had a great career there, I still have great friends there and a good relationship with the club, which for me is important. So yes, I’m a die hard Leeds United fan.”

Will Leeds United be playing in the Premier League next season?

Yes

No

Therefore, he is sure to be delighted with how this season has gone under Marcelo Bielsa as the club look set to finally end their 16-year stay outside the Premier League.

The Yorkshire outfit top the table and boast a seven point lead over third-placed Fulham with just nine games remaining, so they are in a very commanding position. They also have the added cushion of knowing that there is a good chance they will go up if the campaign doesn’t resume, after the EFL recommended a points per game metric is used to decide the final standings in the Football League – although that does need to be signed off by the clubs and it should be stressed the aim is to finish the Championship season on the pitch, which is what Leeds want.
