Former Leeds United fan favourite Jimmy Floyd Hasselbaink has said the club ‘needs’ to be in the Premier League and he believes that we’ll that achieve that aim under manager Marcelo Bielsa.

The former Dutch international spent a few years with us, scoring a number of memorable goals between 1997 and 1999 before he headed for Spain in a big money move and in a recent interview with Sky Sports the 46-year-old clearly remembers his spell with us fondly.

“It is a club that needs to be in the Premier League. All clubs if they get to the Premier League deserve to be there but I definitely think that Leeds will add another dimension. They’re such a big club, the fans are absolutely amazing and the stadium is always rocking so if they can get themselves to the Premier League it will be better with them in it.”

Obviously Bielsa figured highly when it came to his words of praise and he spoke about his knowledge of the game and how the likes of Pep Guardiola and Mauricio Pochettino speak about him, so he knows he’s played a massive part in our start to the year and with the way he seems to be getting more out of some of our players compared to previous gaffers.

There’s a long way to go obviously and January could be a key time for us when it comes to strengthening the group, providing cover for injuries and just generally trying to improve the overall quality in the camp as the last thing we want to do now is have the injuries hit us hard and then see us slip away and undo all the good work that got us into this position in the first place.
