“It would be no surprise”: Phil Hay delivers Leeds United takeover update

|

Leeds United could receive investment from QSI in some form in the future, with Andrea Radrizzani’s close friendship with Nasser Al-Khelaifi meaning it’s possible.

There has been speculation for some time about the Qatari business putting serious funds into the Whites and it’s something that has excited Leeds fans given the way Al-Khelaifi has transformed PSG since taking over, with the club winning their latest French championship last month and they are still in the Champions League.

With Radrizzani visiting Al-Khelaifi in Paris over the years, along with the Italian refusing to rule out a deal, there has been talk that serious funds could be put into Leeds. And, The Athletic reporter Phil Hay has given an update on the situation and whilst he explained that talk from both camps has played down the prospects of a sale, it wouldn’t be a shock if a deal was agreed in the future.

Do you want more investment in the club from QSI or another party?

Yes

No

It’s very hard to say. That rumours continues to float around but whenever I speak to anyone on either side (Leeds or QSI), it sounds nowhere near being close. But given how well Radrizzani and Al-Khelaifi know each other (and the way in which both of them keep giving this story legs) it would be no surprise if something happened at some stage.”

Obviously, Leeds would be a much more attractive prospect to Al-Khelaif, and any other interested parties, if they were a Premier League club and that looks as though it will happen in the coming months. Marcelo Bielsa’s men are top of the Championship and they hold a seven point advantage over third-placed Fulham in the race for a top two finish, with just nine games scheduled to play.
