“Impossible To Explain…Difficult To Justify” – Bielsa Reacts To Leeds Defeat

|

Leeds United’s final action of the regular 2018/19 Championship campaign saw us make the trip to Portman Road to face already relegated Ipswich Town.

Our Play-Off place and a season extension is already guaranteed, but Sunday’s round of second tier fixtures would confirm our upcoming Semi-Final opponents.

It was another of those days for Leeds though as we had to fight back from being behind twice and even though they were reduced to ten men in the final ten minutes, they nicked the winner in the 90th minute. It could’ve been different had Kemar Roofe not slipped when he had the chance from the penalty spot as spooned the ball high and wide.

Not the perfect way to prepare for the Play-Offs but with our usual control of the game, we know we can beat anyone as long as we take some of the numerous chances we create in matches and that will have to be the aim when we face Derby County in the two legged Play-Off Semi-Final affair.

Speaking to the BBC following the fulltime whistle, manager Marcelo Bielsa said of the game.

“If you put aside the mistakes we made from this game, the performance from the team was good enough. At the end of the game you could not think that this opponent could score three goals against us and it was impossible that we could not score three or four goals. We conceded three goals and this is something that is honestly impossible to explain and we also only scored two goals, which is also difficult to justify.”
