“I’m Proud” – Bielsa Content With Leeds’ Night As We Put Disappointment Behind Us

|

Leeds United were looking to make up for recent slip-ups in the Championship campaign of 2018/19 as we made the trip to Deepdale to face Preston North End.

With the unfortunate defeat to Birmingham City in the last game, we handed Sheffield United the automatic spot advantage, but tonight could see us leapfrog them once again and keep the pressure on, and Pablo Hernandez being passed fit was certainly a boost.

After a goalless first half where Leeds again utterly dominated possession and chances without doing much with them, the game turned in our favour in the second period and a resolute Preston side were reduced to ten men. We quickly took advantage to make it 2-0 with Patrick Bamford helping himself to a brace with goals coming in the 62nd and 76th minutes.

With the clean sheet kept it’s back into second spot in the second tier table we go now its eyes elsewhere for a possible slip up (or two).

Speaking to the BBC following the final result, manager Marcelo Bielsa said of the game.

“I like how Preston play. I like their style, their coach and the players they have. The physical tempo of the game was very high. I’m proud because all of the players had a high level of performance. Patrick Bamford improved his previous performance today in the game, with two goals and a lot of good work for the team.”
