Leeds United fans have been sharing their team selection ideas on social media ahead of Swansea City’s trip to Elland Road, and many are demanding Kalvin Phillips retains his place in Marcelo Bielsa’s side.
Phillips earnt what has become a rare start in midfield against Middlesbrough at the weekend in the absence of Adam Forshaw, despite the role being the 23-year-old’s natural position.
Instead, Bielsa often deploys the academy graduate in a central defensive role, with Forshaw partnering Mateusz Klich ahead.
For many Whites supporters, however, they would prefer Saturday’s stoppage-time hero retaining the defensive midfield slot over the 27-year-old on Wednesday night, with some suggesting that Forshaw should instead rotate with Klich.
That is providing Forshaw is passed fit, as the Yorkshire Evening Post is unsure at present whether or not the former Boro man will be available for selection thanks to the knee injury that ruled him out against his previous side.
Without the blow, Bielsa would have been expected to start Forshaw in midfield over Phillips, who later went on to net a vital equalising goal in the 100th minute.
The Whites boss is currently awaiting further assessment on the midfielder’s state before making his final decision, which will either please or frustrate these fans…
No brainer! Phillips all day long

Phillips won us the game at boro. Forshaw couldn’t hit a barn door. No brainer

It’s a strange thing, we look SO much better with Kalvin in there. Might he have played them both? So AF in for Klich?

Dear god, must play phillips surely

Always Phillips. I’m amazed this is even a serious question, to be honest.

If Bielsa wants us to take the shine off our appreciation of him he just has to pick Forshaw over Phillips. The former is no way nearer the latter in quality or product that matters. #lufc

For me Phillips plays CDM every game. Then you rotate Forshaw & Klich to keep them fresh. #lufc

Phillips all day long, Forshaw has been caught in possession far too often recently

if he plays Forshaw, it has to be in front of Phillips and replacing Klich. Phillips HAS to play deep.

Philips is equally good in possession but offers so much more as a stopper/interceptor/Batty type side to his game – and better in air for set pieces both ends

may be time for Klich to start on bench and push Forshaw into No8 role?
