With the news that Leeds United’s Samu Saiz is looking for a return to Spain owing to the fact his pregnant girlfriend has found it difficult to settle in England, and understandably maybe wants to be nearer home and family – we are now being linked with a replacement, former Manchester United talent Nick Powell.

The 24-year-old came through Crewe Alexandra’s Academy setup and was signed to the Old Trafford outfit for £4million back in the summer of 2012, but a handful of appearances later and numerous loan spells he moved to Wigan Athletic in the summer of 2016 as a free agent as it didn’t work out for him.

Since moving to Wigan his stock has risen significantly and he’s bagged 25 goals in just over 80 appearances as they returned to the Championship following relegation and in my humble, he’s not a bad shout at all. So far in 2018/19 he’s made 18 appearances, with a return of four goals and four assists.

The biggest question would be, would Leeds open the chequebook far enough for him – although he is out of contract in the summer, so that might play in our favour.

It would be an alternative to Izzy Brown.
