“Ideal replacement” – Sky pundit lauds “hard-working, diligent” £60k-p/w Leeds target

|

Sky Sports pundit Danny Mills has lauded Everton forward Cenk Tosun as the ideal player to replace Arsenal’s Eddie Nketiah at Leeds United in January.

Nketiah is not expected to be heading back to the Emirates Stadium in the winter market, despite his lack of playing time under Marcelo Bielsa at Elland Road.

It had been suggested that the Gunners would trigger their mid-season recall clause next month, due to the England U21 ace only being awarded a fleeting number of appearances from the bench and remains without a start in the Championship since his Deadline Day arrival in August.

The London-born attacker is also unhappy at his situation in West Yorkshire, but Arsenal are content with him seeing out the campaign under Bielsa’s tutelage.

Should things change and Arsenal trigger their clause, reports have suggested that Everton striker Tosun is one of the players on our shortlist to come in during the January window, and Mills feels the Turkey international would be the ideal replacement.

Our former right-back told Football Insider: “He’s not been prolific [at] Everton but we have seen he is hard-working, diligent, [and] obviously [has] got quality, maybe not quite enough for the Premier League.

“But he could be an ideal replacement, as he has experience, if Nketiah goes back to Arsenal.”

Would you back a move for Tosun if Nketiah leaves?

Yes

No

Tosun moved to Everton for £27million in January 2018 from Super Lig giants Besiktas, but has only managed to find the back of the net ten times in 49 games for the Goodison Park natives across all competitions.

The £60,000-per-week centre-forward has only been awarded two starts in the Premier League this season, as well, while not featuring at all since failing to score at home to Norwich City last month.

Tosun may be open to leaving the Merseyside natives in the winter, though, as continuing to live life on the fringes of the Everton first-team could hinder his chances of securing a seat on the plane to Euro 2020.

He has scored three goals in his last three international appearances, and captained Turkey to a 4-0 win over Moldova in September.
