‘I did not think twice’: Marcelo Bielsa star reveals why he had to leave Leeds in January

Samuel Saiz was one of Marcelo Bielsa’s top performers in the Championship, but the Spaniard has revealed at his official Getafe unveiling, per quotes by Eurosport, why he had to leave Elland Road in January.

Before his shock departure, the creative midfielder had played in an integral role in Leeds United’s run to the top of the table, with 34 key passes, 46 dribbles, and 31 shots in 19 games.

His absence was immediately felt, as well, with Leeds only taking 15 of a possible 27 points since he last featured in England against Queens Park Rangers on December 8 – seven fewer than Hull City, who were in 19th at the time.

To address his loss, Leeds spent January searching for a new creative midfielder in the transfer market, but came up empty-handed when Swansea negated a loan-to-buy deal for Daniel James.

For Saiz, however, he did not have to think twice about returning to La Liga.

“After two years in England, when I had the option to return to Getafe, I was very attracted to the idea, and seeing how the team was working, I did not think twice,” Saiz told the assembled media at his delayed unveiling.

“The call of the coach is important to finish convincing you and come to play here, no one can doubt that the coach is doing great things.

“Here we all come to help, to add and that the team does not lose that strength and that desire with which it is competing.”
