Rob Hulse wants to stave off surgery until the New Year by having an injection in a hip injury.

The 26-year-old, who has also been struggling with an ankle problem this season, will consult a specialist in a bid for a temporary cure – but the injury will at some stage require an operation.

Meanwhile, boss Kevin Blackwell has been dealt more bad news after learning defender Dan Harding may have chipped a bone in his foot.

The former Brighton left-back was withdrawn early in the second half and replaced by Danny Pugh after sustaining the injury in Saturday’s 1-0 home defeat to Cardiff.

Blackwell is hoping the results of a scan will reveal nothing more serious than bruising as he prepares his promotion-chasing squad for the hectic Christmas schedule.

But if Leeds’ worst fears are realised Harding will face several weeks on the sidelines and further stretch Blackwell’s resources at a crucial time.
