How Jose Mourinho’s appointment at Tottenham will affect young Jack Clarke – Report

|

So, it’s all change in North London.

Whilst the fortunes of Tottenham Hotspur don’t really have an effect on what happens at Elland Road, there is one person who will find himself very much in a little bit of a pickle with the latest news, and that’s Jack Clarke.

Clarke was sold to Spurs and then loaned back to Leeds in the summer, but has found playing time hard to come by so far, with his only minutes coming in the Carabao Cup, with some believing that it could lead to him being recalled in the January window.

However, with Jose Mourinho now in charge, is that likely to change anything regarding Clarke’s situation?

Phil Hay believes that the plan to recall him isn’t going to change based on what is happening at Elland Road regarding his lack of minutes, whilst I don’t think it’s going to change because of Mourinho’s track record.

It’s often been said that Mourinho doesn’t use his young players, but if you look deeper into the situation, you’ll see that he actually does have a pretty good track record when it comes to giving kids a chance, so Clarke may indeed have a future at Spurs after all, even though he wasn’t brought in by the current regime.

It’s not simply going to be a case of thinking he’s going to be allowed to disappear back into the footballing wilderness as Mourinho tries to build a squad to take them back into the top four, there will be chances for him to play.

So whilst there may be certain sections of the Leeds United fan base that think there’s a chance for him to somehow be returned back to the club and allowed to carry on his career here, I think it’s fair to say that those dreams are unlikely to happen. Plus, when you consider the likes of Pablo Hernandez and Helder Costa seemingly here for the long haul, those opportunities on the wings aren’t going to suddenly increase in the next couple of months.

Does Clarke have a future at Elland Road?

Yes, absolutely

Only as a backup

No, send him back to Spurs

Long story short, I wouldn’t get your hopes up of him still being a Leeds player come the end of the window.
