“Hopefully this will help” – These Leeds fans react to Championship side’s decision

|

A few Leeds United fans have been reacting on social media after Birmingham City announced that Pep Clotet had been appointed as the Blues’ manager on a permanent basis.

Clotet took over duties at the St Andrew’s helm on a caretaker basis in June after Garry Monk was sacked, but the Blues made it clear from the off that they would not be seeking another manager at the time.

Monk was relieved of his duties at the Championship side just over a year into his role there, as the Chinese-owned club felt the decision would improve their chances of securing promotion into the Premier League.

Clotet was Monk’s assistant throughout the 40-year-old’s time in charge of Birmingham, having joined our former head coach at St Andrew’s following a spell as Oxford United’s manager between July 2017 and January 2018.

Does Clotet's appointment make Birmingham a promotion rival?

Yes

No way

Clotet had previously worked with Monk at Elland Road, as well, but moved on from the club before taking up his position at Oxford.

Since being fired by Birmingham, Monk returned to management with Sheffield Wednesday and has won five of his 14 games in charge of the Hillsborough natives in all competitions.

Clotet has now been appointed as Birmingham’s head coach on a full-time basis, becoming the first to take the title of head coach at St Andrew’s rather than manager.

The 42-year-old Spaniard has taken an average of 1.25 points per game since replacing Monk, winning seven of 20 matches in all competitions, but is without a win since beating Luton Town in October.
