You can read what you want into pre-season games.
They matter as much or as little as you want them to. When you lose, you’ll quite often hear fans saying that ‘it was only about fitness’. If you win, you’ll get the never-ending stream of unfunny fans demanding that the club ‘announce’ some sort of success.
So when popular Leeds account @LUFCDATA posted the list of goal scorers from this summer’s friendlies, as well as how many times they’d found the net, it was left open to Leeds fans to interpret what those statistics meant.
Leeds’ top scorers in pre-season:
Harrison (3)
Hernandez (3)
Edmondson (3)
Alioski (2)
Bogusz (2)
Costa
Roofe
Klich
Clarke
Forshaw
Gotts

It made for some interesting opinions.
A lot of fans saw it as an opportunity for young forward Ryan Edmondson to be given some chances in the first-team squad, which goes against what a lot of fans were saying last week about the club needing a new centre-forward, so something has got to give in that department. A lot of praise also came in for returning loan man Jack Harrison, who will hopefully be able to improve on his return from last year.
Ryan deserves a bench place – he might be the raw talent we need. Even if he just contributes it all counts.

Would like to see Edmondson get a bit of game time this season. The guy knows where the net is so would be interesting to see if he can bring it into the 1st team

I really want to see Edmondson start . He deserve it more than Bamford after his goals tally in pre season .
Bamford will find form after coming off the bench because he’ll have something to prove ! #alaw— Richard Stones (@FirstHud247) July 29, 2019
Whilst some fans took it as an opportunity to criticise the forwards already at the club, in particular the man who got nine goals for them last year, Patrick Bamford.
Worryingly no Bamford on that list.

How cool would it be if one of our strikers (1st team) scored as well?! Hop digity!

But none for our star striker Bamford ????
