For many Leeds United fans, manager Marcelo Bielsa can do no wrong and his methods and general approach to life at the club following his arrival last summer, quickly saw fans take him into their hearts – and despite some occasional concerns – his behaviour as the season drew on, including the often referenced Spygate, simply left people loving him more.
The bizarre but fantastic press conference, the subsequent reveal that as he felt he was in the wrong and the club shouldn’t be punished, so he paid the £200,000 EFL fine himself, even down to El Loco living up to his name and instructing the squad to let Aston Villa equalise.
It was a mad old season and with a mixed summer almost behind us now, we continue preparing for another year under the Argentine gaffer.
With a hattip to Leeds Live yesterday, a video has gone viral showing another press conference from Bielsa’s time at Athletic Bilboa, and his refreshing honesty was clearly on show back then, as after a disagreement where he felt his behaviour had overstepped the bounds, he reported himself to the Police after he’d called down.
The video carries subtitles and with credit to Juani Jimena for posting it on social media.
Bielsa observes that the company in charge of making some works in the training ground has done them wrong. After arguing with a person from the company, he gets angry. Later, he went to the police station to made a report against himself. 😀 #Bielsa #lufc pic.twitter.com/YotFaO10VP
