Talk about putting your foot in your mouth.
When you move from one club to another, it’s best to keep things dignified, make sure things are amicable on both sides. It’s never nice to see the cries of ‘Judas’ and the like that greeted the likes of Rio Ferdinand when he returned to Elland Road in 2002. Or maybe it is, depending on your point of view, but that’s for a different time.
But whilst staying dignified, don’t say anything stupid. Don’t for instance, say what Pontus Jansson said. Speaking to Brentford’s official club channel after his move to Griffin Park was completed, Jansson talked about how any why the move came about. However there was one line in his interview that left Leeds fans, let’s just say a little bit befuddled.
“I said directly to [my agent] to check with Brentford because Brentford, for me, is one of the best teams”.
Whilst we may never know if that all turns out to be true, this has the makings of being a line that will come back to haunt the big Swedish defender when he returns to Elland Road in August.
And Leeds fans were quick to get into the flow of things by taking to Twitter and they were in hysterics over what he said.
Sure ya did Pontus ????????????
