Leeds 100% start to the season ended in a hard fought 0-0 draw at Southend.

The Whites made two changes from the side that defeated Stockport last week.

Jermaine Beckford returned to the starting line up in place on Mike Grella,
Patrick Kisnorbo came back into the side and partnered Leigh Bromby in the centre of defence.

In a very tight first half with very few clear cut chances, Bromby had Leeds best chance but missed the target from close range.

Southend should have taken the lead on the stroke of half time but Grant somehow managed to shoot over with Higgs well out of position in the Leeds goal.

Leeds were forced into an early change in the second half, Lubomir Michalik replaced Jason Crowe. Bromby reverted to right back with Michalik partnering Kisnorbo in the middle of defence.

Southend missed a great chance to take the lead half way through the half when they were awarded a penalty after a foul by Leigh Bromby.

Barnard took the spot kick but Shane Higgs dived to his left to make a fabulous save.

Beckford had a chance soon afterwards but Barrett got back to deflect his shot out for a corner.

Jermaine Beckford then had Leeds best effort in the final few minutes but his weak effort was saved by Mildenhall in the Southend goal.

Leeds continued to search for a late winner and substitute Mike Grella headed wide from a corner.

Bradley Johnson had Leeds last effort on goal but he screwed his shot wide.

The 100% start to the season has gone but Leeds have gone top for at least 19 hours.
