“He’s Not Worth That” – Pundit Bizarrely Blames Leeds For Protecting Their Own Investment

|

BBC Leeds pundit Noel Whelan has again been speaking about highly rated Academy graduate Jack Clarke and it seems that the rumour speculation about the 18-year-old has gone a little bit too quiet, as he’s basically blamed the club recently for pricing the youngster out of a move.

“If We Do Sell Him” – These Leeds Fans Have A Message After Transfer Speculation

Fans are already somewhat split on whether we should cash in on the talent, or keep him at all costs and so far the rumours have been exactly that, with no official bids or expressions of interest received it seems – so the rumour mill is largely feeding itself here and speaking recently to Football Insider Whelan has taken another quick bite.

“Leeds have overpriced the young man from what I hear. They want £20million for him and he’s not worth that. Let’s not get ahead of ourselves. £12million is a lot of money, but £20million is overpricing a player. You have to be sensible with a player’s valuation. He still has a long way to go.”

Like the interest from clubs such as Tottenham Hotspur, the £20million claim is journalist invention, nobody will truly know what the magic number is other than Leeds themselves but Whelan has unfortunately fallen into the trap here of trying to sell Clarke from under us, and in effect blaming the club for appearing to have actually done the right thing if we want to keep the lad, and from what we know, Clarke wants to stay anyway.

The transfer market itself shows that sense doesn’t come into it, and again it makes the presumption that we’re a willing seller. If £20million is right and we want to keep him, why not say £40million instead to really prove the point that it would take an offer devoid of sense for us to deal.
