Here Leeds Go Again – The Race For 2nd Spot Is Intense – Match Stats

|

Leeds United fans waited patiently for kickoff today against Wigan Athletic having seen the early Sheffield United match draw them level on points with us again.

They kept the pressure on with their game, but a draw at Elland Road would be enough to hand the small advantage back. We were going for a lot more than a draw against Wigan though.

With the visitors being reduced to ten men 14 minutes in, the usually reliable Pablo Hernandez saw his penalty effort bounce back of the woodwork, but Patrick Bamford had us ahead in the 17th minute as he opened the scoring.

Shortly before the halftime break, Wigan equalised to send us in at 1-1 and manager Marcelo Bielsa reacted instantly with a double substitution at the break seeing Kalvin Phillips and Tyler Roberts taken off for Adam Forshaw and Kemar Roofe and it was a bright start to the second 45.

Until it wasn’t, and Wigan silenced the crowd taking a 2-1 advantage just after the hour mark.

Despite our best efforts we couldn’t tie the game up and they took the win but we knew there would be twists and turns yet.

Hugely disappointing from all angles, but we rally and get back on track.
