‘Gutsy performance’ ‘This is the year’: These Leeds fans react to nail-biter against West Brom

|

It wouldn’t be Leeds if it was straight forward.

Leeds went to the top of the table as they played out a nail-biting 1-0 win at home to West Bromwich Albion.

As the first chance progressed, it was that same old story for Leeds as they huffed and puffed but just couldn’t get the ball over the line.

In fact the first ‘big event’ in the first half came in rather unfortunate circumstances. Captain Liam Cooper had to be taken off after sustaining what appeared to be a quad injury, and it had some fans fearing the worst.

Those fears were put to bed almost instantly as Gjanni Alioski put the home side ahead, although the shot did take a mighty deflection on the way through, so it could be taken away from him, but we’ll deal with that later.

It could have been two on the stroke of half-time, but a fantastic save by West Brom keeper Sam Johnstone kept Helder Costa at bay.

Whilst there were chances for both sides in the second half, it’s fair to say that it was going to take another goal for the Leeds fans to start feeling confident about holding on. Would they be able to hang on for three precious points? Or would there be one more twist?

There would be no twist as Leeds managed to hold on for victory and head top of the table. Question is, how long will we be able to stay there?
