Following the news that on-loan goalkeeper Jamal Blackman’s time at Leeds United is over before it even really began with him breaking his tibia in Friday afternoon’s Under 23 clash against Birmingham City, the weekend was dominated by talk of who to get as a replacement.

A number of names featured, Kieran Westwood, Tom Heaton, Nick Pope, David Stockdale, added to those goalkeepers currently out of contract and available as free agents, but for the following fans on social media, three time England capped stopper Heaton is their main pick.

He is under contract at Turf Moor until 2020, but they are well stocked in the goalkeeping department with Joe Hart and Pope and there are already whispers that he’ll be looking to move on, so although a loan deal is potentially the more likely for the 32-year-old there’s no reason it shouldn’t be with a view to a permanent deal.

Heaton would tick a lot of boxes in terms of his experience, and he would be a good tutor for Bailey Peacock-Farrell as he continues his own development as well, so I certainly see this one as being win, win compared to the other names listed.
