Some Leeds United fans have been praising Robbie Gotts on social media for his “sensational” performance against Arsenal in our FA Cup Third Round defeat.

Gotts has been a peripheral fringe player under manager Marcelo Bielsa this season, with the Argentine naming the 20-year-old on the bench for 20 games in all competitions without playing a single minute of action before Monday night’s trip to the Emirates Stadium.

In North London, Bielsa awarded Gotts his senior United debut and started the young 5 ft 9 talent in the centre of midfield alongside Poland international Mateusz Klich and in front of £30million star Kalvin Phillips.

Bielsa has not shied from sharing his admiration of Gotts’ talents before, but has previously acknowledged the difficulties the youngster faces trying to establish himself at Elland Road during a promotion-chasing campaign.

Gotts certainly would have left a positive impression on the boss at Arsenal on Monday, though, even if some fans have noted that his performance wilted somewhat the longer the match progressed.

Supporters have also voiced their pleasure in seeing Gotts not be afraid to try his luck from outside the box against one of the Premier League’s big six sides, having scuffed a long-range effort in the 38th-minute after busy work down the right-hand channel.

Gotts’ first-half effort was one of two shots for the academy product, who also boasted one key ball from 17/23 accurate passes at the Emirates, won his only aerial duel and took possession with one of three tackles, per WhoScored data.

The Harrogate-born talent found a teammate with two of his three long balls, as well as taking 30 touches, though lost possession ten times, lost four of five ground duels and was caught offside once, according to Sofa Score statistics.

Here are some of the messages shared as fans reacted to Gotts’ first-team debut away to Arsenal in the FA Cup Third Round…

In other Leeds United news, the club have named their price for an in-demand 24-year-old, set to leave Elland Road in January.
