Good News For Leeds Defender After Injury Concern

|

With Leeds United welcoming Sheffield Wednesday to Elland Road at the weekend, there was more than just bragging rights up for grabs given the lay out of the Championship table and whilst most eyes were purely on seeing us take all three points and gain a small advantage back over Sheffield United in the chase for automatic promotion, there was one piece of injury news that was a concern.

During the buildup to the game, skipper Liam Cooper was ruled out of the match with injury and he was replaced by Gaetano Berardi who partnered Pontus Jansson in the heart of defence for the match.

Having pulled out during the warm up, manager Marcelo Bielsa has confirmed this week that he doesn’t believe the injury is too serious after our medical staff ran their eye over him.

Leeds Live quoted the gaffer yesterday as saying.

“We don’t think so. He feels a pain in a strange muscle, in a muscle players don’t normally suffer injuries, but with this pain he couldn’t play the game. I highly value the fact Cooper did everything he could to play the game and at the same it’s important to have the experience to say he couldn’t play the game.”

Bielsa didn’t put a timeframe on a return but even if this Good Friday’s clash with Wigan Athletic comes too soon, he may return for Easter Monday’s trip to Brentford.
