Good News For Leeds, Bad News For Aston Villa As Key Player States “Teams Will Be Prepared For Us”

With ongoing speculation about the potential future of Leeds United star Kalvin Phillips with strong links to Aston Villa so far on the summer transfer window rumour mill, the player has been quiet himself when it came to the speculation, but a recent interview has left many fans thinking he’s going nowhere.

The 23-year-old will be well aware of the rumours doing the rounds about the Midlands club and with talk of a £14million bid, with Leeds holding out for at least £20million before we’ll even entertain a sale – the most common rumour has been that Phillips would rather agree a new deal and the likes of Noel Whelan have been pretty adamant they didn’t expect him to go anywhere.

With the fixture lists for the coming year being released last Thursday, Phillips was the player wheeled out to discuss the upcoming campaign and it’s easy to see why some thought that was a message from both Phillips and the club when it came to the rumours, and importantly, he didn’t sound like a player who felt his future was in doubt.

“We all know it is going to be a tough season, in this league it doesn’t really matter how you start, it is about how you finish, as we have seen in the last couple of years. We’ll be looking at the fixtures towards the end of the season, we have very good games coming up and we’re looking forward to them getting underway. I think a lot more teams will be prepared for us now, but hopefully we will have something up our sleeve and we can start the season how we did last year. We played very well against Bristol last season, they like to play football and attack the teams they come up against. We’re looking forward to it and hopefully we can get off to a good start.”

Lots of ‘we’s’ there and a clear focus.
