According to Ger Lynch on his Youtube podcast Leeds United-The View, Chelsea are keeping tabs on Leeds United goalkeeper Illan Meslier.

It is believed the London club are keeping an eye on the situation with Meslier and their interest is ‘legitimate’. However, Chelsea have Édouard Mendy and Kepa Arrizabalaga already on their books and it would seem that one of those would have to leave in order to facilitate a deal for the Leeds stopper.

The Whites signed Meslier from French club Lorient, initially on a loan deal in 2019/20 and then made the transfer a permanent one the season after for a fee of around £5m. He is approaching 100 games for the West Yorkshire club and became the first goalkeeper under the age of 21 to keep 11 clean sheets in the Premier League. His excellent performances have gained him the admiration of the Elland Road faithful and he is fast becoming a world-class keeper. There are still aspects of his game that need to be worked on, but at 22 years old, he will only improve. It is thought most goalkeepers don’t really hit their peak until they are around 30 years old so he has a long way to go yet, and many more years to up his game. His superb display in the 2-1 win at Anfield recently saw him pick up the Premier League man of the match award.

Would you like to see Leeds hold on to Meslier?

Yes, he has been superb

Yes, he has been superb

No, we need better

No, we need better

Ger Lynch said, ” According to Simon Phillips from substack, Chelsea are interested in Illan Meslier. What’s come out here is that their interest was two sources have spoken to Simon from Chelsea, one said they were just keeping an eye on him but they didn’t think he was any better than what they currently have in Mendy and Arrizabalaga. He says that the second source has said that they are keeping an eye on him and that their interest in Meslier is legitimate. A lot of money now Todd Boehly is throwing tons of it around. They already have Mendy and they already have Arrizabalaga, Spurs have been linked heavily with a move for Melsier should Lloris move on, or retire.”

“Meslier is a big big player for Leeds and he’s only going to get better, they talk about when players peak, goalkeepers don’t peak until their late 20s, early 30s before we get to see the best out of them, so there’s a lot of mileage left in Illan Meslier, and we’ll have to wait and see what happens there. yeah, I would like to see him stay at Leeds a little bit longer before if they then decide to move him on but we’ll have to wait and see.”

I would like to see Meslier be the number 1 at Leeds for the long term. I know he has his shaky moments but all in all he is a fantastic young goalkeeper. He has certainly kept us in some games since his arrival and some of his stops have been absolutely world-class. What do you think, would you like to see him at Leeds for many years to come?
