According to Ger Lynch via his Youtube channel, Leeds United – The View, Jesse Marsch is to reignite his interest in Philadelphia Union left-back, Kai Wagner.

The 25-year-old defender has been linked with the Whites for a long time now and it now seems Jesse Marsch has made contact with Philadelphia Union coach Jim Curtin about a possible move for the German left-back. Wagner has made over 110 appearances for the MLS side, scoring four goals. He has received praise from Curtin who believes he is one of the best left-backs in the league. LeedsLive has reported what Curtin has said about Wagner. He said, “He has the ability to play for me and in any league in the world. I think he’s that talented, and it’s at a position, where let’s be blunt, there’s not a lot of good left-backs in the world. Kai is a very strong one and we’re very fortunate to have him.”

Leeds are desperate for reinforcements in the defensive areas and Wagner would be a great addition. Not only by having a recognised left-back playing in the correct position, but that will also allow Pascal Struijk to move across to his preferred centre-back role. Junior Firpo is the only recognised left-back at the club but it seems the defender’s days are numbered at Elland Road with Struijk being chosen over him more recently. The fact Struijk has played even when Firpo has been fully fit speaks volumes.

Ger Lynch speaking on the speculation surrounding Kai Wagner said, “Talking about Philadelphia Union left-back and longtime Leeds linked Kai Wagner. According to The Athletic, Leeds will make a move for the player when the January window opens. Phil Hay said, despite being 25-year-old, Philadelphia Union Kai Wagner is an option that Leeds will be looking at. The defender who has yet to appear for a major European League has plenty of miles left in the tank. A fee to get him would be in the low millions. He wouldn’t cost Leeds an awful lot and there have been connections and contact between Jesse Marsch and the Philadelphia Union manager coach Curtin in the past and what Coach Curtin has had to say about this situation is the following. Basically, Curtin has said, I’ve had discussions with Jesse, obviously, he’s on their radar there’s no question about that, but so are a lot of other good left-backs in the world. Leeds have been linked with Empoli’s Parisi, Raphael Guerreiro at Dortmund as well now as Kai Wagner as well, So that will be interesting to see.”

Why MLS players weak poor league, we need proven quality, we have enough lower grade players, when we do get our wallets out, they dont delve into it too deeply, especially after a very poor performance against Man City, who should have been 4 up by halftime?
