Ger Lynch: Leeds looking at Bristol City midfielder

|

According to Ger Lynch and speaking on his Youtube channel, Leeds United – The View, Leeds United are looking at Bristol City’s 19-year-old midfielder Alex Scott.

With the departure of Mateusz Klich this week to the MLS and Adam Forshaw again ruled out of action due to another injury, the Whites are looking short in the midfield. Tyler Adams, Marc Roca and Sam Greenwood being the only real options in the centre of the park for Jesse Marsch, it is now believed the West Yorkshire club have turned their attention to Alex Scott.

The youngster has impressed in the Championship this season with some solid performances in the middle of the pitch and has racked up over 40 appearances for the club, scoring a handful of goals. He has represented England at U18, U19 and U20 levels and was part of the side that won the 2022 UEFA European Under-19 Championship. There are reports a number of Premier League clubs including Wolves, Brighton, Spurs and Leicester are tracking the youngster and the fee Bristol City are asking for is rumoured to be upwards of £12m.

Ger Lynch said, “Ben Jacobs has said that Leeds are now looking at Bristol City midfielder Alex Scott. Now, this is an interesting one, Leeds did look at Alex Scott earlier in the season as did a couple of others and Jacobs has been told there’s a realistic possibility of Scott moving in this window However, earlier in January, it was rumoured that Bristol City would accept anything up to a £12 million pound bid for the player to move, it has now changed.”

“Wolves Leicester, Brighton and Spurs are all tracking the midfielder as well and according to Ben Jacobs, Bristol City now wants a deal in the region of £25 million pounds. There’s no doubt that people reckon Alex Scott will get to a point in his career where he’s worth 25 million but is he worth that right now is a big question playing in the Championship for Bristol City.”

“It would be a big gamble for Leeds and that amount of money and the fear that isn’t proven even at the top level in this country, I know they’re spending a huge amount of money on Rutter but he has got some calibre in his local divisions.”

There is still plenty of time left in the January transfer window for Leeds to do some more business. With the arrival of Max Wober and the imminent signing of Georginio Rutter, they already look like they are going in the right direction. If Marsch can secure one or two more additions before the window shuts in a couple of weeks and maybe tighten the defence, then there is a real possibility they can start to climb up the table.
