Jerry Mbakogu could now be set to stay in Italy with reports suggesting that he could be off to Serie B side Venezia.

The forward seemed destined to be one of our early signings this summer with plenty of fans surely concerned that that would be the case.

Unproven in the Championship, he looked potentially set to be another Caleb Ekuban but it seemed as though once Marcelo Bielsa came in we would not be getting him.

Indeed, according to TMW, Venezia are apparently showing an interest in him after he was released by Carpi not too long ago.

I found it rather significant that Carpi decided to let him go and it seems clear to me that we have probably done well to swerve this signing.

He may prove to be good for Venezia if he signs, of course, but I can’t see it being enough to warrant a move here or anywhere else in the Championship.
