Leeds United`s play-off hopes look to be well and truly over after a shocking 7-3 defeat at home to Nottingham Forest.

Things looked good for Leeds early on when Robert Snodgrass put Leeds ahead but it all went downhill after that.

Garath McCleary netted four times for Forest and Dexter Blackstock twice has Forest eased their relegation worries.

Forest had a great start in the opening moments of the game when Dexter Blackstock fired wide after a good ball into the middle by Chris Gunter.

Leeds were awarded a penalty inside five minutes when Ross McCormack was brought down by Adlene Guedioura.

Robert Snodgrass stepped up to beat Lee Camp and score his thirteenth goal of the season.

Forest were level minutes later when Guedioura who was guilty of the trip on McCormack for the penalty minutes earlier gave Andy Lonergan no chance with a bullet of a shot from 35 yards.

The game then calmed down after a frantic first ten minutes.

Andy Reid had a chance for the visitors but he hit his shot straight at Lonergan.

Forest were looking the better side and Reid had another effort deflected wide for a corner.

McCleary had a couple of half chances for Forest but failed to hit the target with either has Leeds struggled to get into the game.

Leeds had a rare attack and McCormack saw his shot beaten out for a corner by Camp.

Aidy White then had an effort that took a deflection and went out for another Leeds corner.

Forest took the lead in stoppage time when McCleary when past Michael Brown and his shot beat Lonergan.

The half time whistle followed soon afterwards with the visitors deservedly in the lead.

Leeds boss Neil Warnock made a change at half time with Danny Webber replacing Aidy White.

Forest increased their lead early in the second half when Blackstock headed home a cross from Reid.

Leeds were quickly back into the game when Snodgrass set up Luciano Becchio to fire home.

Michael Brown put Leeds level minutes later to make it 3-3 with a cracking goal from the edge of the area.

McCleary then scored a fourth goal in five minutes to put Forest back ahead with a great strike from a tight angle.

McCleary then completed his hat trick to score a fifth for Forest when he was picked out by Reid to tap home.

His goal was the fifth in nine minutes all before the hour mark.

Snodgrass then tested Camp in the Forest goal who tipped the ball out for a corner.

From the corner, Webber headed over as Leeds tried to find a way back into the game.

McCleary then scored his fourth of the evening as he cut inside Danny Pugh with ease before firing past Lonergan.

Blackstock netted his second of the night for Forest to make it 7-3, the first time in the clubs history that Leeds had conceded seven at home.

It was the final goal of a truly embarrassing home defeat for Leeds.
