Fabrizio Romano has confirmed, via his Twitter account, that Leeds United have completed the transfer of highly rated West Ham youngster Sonny Perkins on a permanent deal.

Perkins joined West Ham from Leyton Orient in 2019 and was involved in their youth system. On 25 November 2021, Perkins was involved in a West Ham senior matchday squad for the first time, being named on the bench for a Europa League group game against Rapid Wien coming on as a substitute. He has represented England at U15, U16 and U18 level.

His switch to Leeds United has been widely reported to have angered some of those associated with West Ham, and an official statement from the London club read “ “West Ham United invests millions of pounds annually into its world-renowned Academy of Football and naturally the club is extremely disappointed Sonny has chosen not to continue his development with the Hammers.”

It is believed Sonny Perkins will go straight into the U21 squad as the preparations are well underway for their season to begin. He will link up with new U21’s head coach Michael Skubala and his assistant Michal Pudjak. Pudjak worked alongside Mark Jackson who had recently moved into the first team set up with head coach Jesse Marsch.

It will be fascinating to watch Perkins development and to see him hopefully given a start in the Premier League with Leeds in the near future. What do fans think? Will he be a star of the future? Let us know in the comments.
