Fabrizio Romano: Leeds open talks with West Ham forward

|

Leeds United have contacted the Hammers about the possible transfer of promising forward Sonny Perkins according to Fabrizio Romano on Twitter.

The whites are hoping to boost their attacking options and Perkins can operate as a forward and as an attacking midfielder.  He has a handful of first team appearances for West Ham and it looks like he could be moving away from the London Club.

He joined West Ham from Leyton Orient in 2019 and his first involvement with the senior squad came in November 2021 when he was named on the bench for a UEFA Europa League game against Rapid Wien. He came on as a 78th minute substitute.

He has experience playing for England at U15, U16 and U18 levels playing twelve times in total and scoring six goals. His most notable appearance came in February 2020 when he scored a hat-trick for the U16’s against USA.

His style of play has been classed as a number ten, very versatile with good hold up play. A perfect fit for Leeds who have missed having someone to unlock defences with a bit of flair or a killer pass since the departure of Pablo Hernandez.

It remains to be seen if this transfer will be too much of a gamble giving Perkins lack of first team action, but he certainly looks like he has a lot of promise for the future. Would the 18 year old be placed in the first team set up at Elland Road or would he need to prove himself in the U23’s?
