According to Fabrizio Romano via Twitter, it has been confirmed that Tottenham Hotspur have shown a genuine interest in Leeds United and Wales winger Dan James. Everton are also monitoring the situation.

Dan James was a long-term target of former Leeds coach Marcelo Bielsa, and the Argentinian became close to capturing the Welsh International when Leeds were in the Championship. A saga well documented in the Leeds series ‘take us home’, which showed the deal fall apart at the 11th hour. The Whites eventually signed the rapid winger when he became available from Manchester United in a £25m deal on the 31st of August 2021.

The 24-year-old is now the subject of speculation once again, as Tottenham Hotspur have shown an interest and have spoken about a possible move which looks like a loan with an obligation to buy. Leeds seem to want to keep James but it appears like they have left the decision up to the player himself to decide. As Fabrizio Romano has said, it’s not an easy deal and Everton have also enquired about James.

Leeds have options on the wing with Jack Harrison, Luis Sinisterra, Crysencio Summerville and even Rodrigo who has stepped into that position before, but Dan James’ pace alone sets him apart from others. His end product needs to be worked on, but the sight of James coming onto the pitch with 20 minutes left to play must put the fear of god into tired defenders.

If Leeds do indeed let James move on this late into the transfer window, it could be bad business and leave them with very little time to bring in a replacement. The sole focus for Leeds now must be to build on the squad and to get a left-back and a striker in before Thursday’s 11 pm deadline.

What do fans think, should Leeds allow James to leave? Let us know in the comments.
