Lots of Leeds United fans have been reacting on social media, after the club shared that our Under 18s had beaten Sheffield Wednesday 5-4 on penalties in the FA Youth Cup on Thursday.

Mark Jackson’s budding young Whites side booked their place in the Fifth Round of the tournament in dramatic fashion, after Jack Jenkins’ 67th-minute strike sent the tie to extra time before an own goal would move us into the lead.

Wednesday pulled level through Basile Zottos eleven minutes later, but an inspired start to the eventual shoot-out from United ‘keeper Cooper Skerry put the club into an early advantage that would return the win.

Jackson had named a strong line-up at the Global Stadium in Tadcaster with Stuart McKinstry, Charlie Cresswell and Nohan Kenneh joining the likes of Jenkins and Skerry.

Who will be the next academy breakthrough talent?

Kenneh would take our fourth spot-kick in the penalty shoot-out to set up Henri Kumwenda to seal the game, with Cresswell stepping up first before Cole Gibbon and Jenkins would riffle home.

Some fans have been reacting to the result by suggesting that Marcelo Bielsa should field some or all of the players who featured in the XI to face the Sheffield Wednesday first-team at Elland Road on Saturday afternoon.

Others have offered their congratulations to Jackson and his side for overcoming the Owl’s youth stars, which booked a place in the Fifth Round draw ahead of games due to be played in early February.

Here are some of the messages shared as fans reacted to Jackson’s U18s beating Sheffield Wednesday in the FA Youth Cup…

In other Leeds United news, the club plan to bring a youth international to Thorp Arch next week ahead of a potential transfer.
