Leeds United’s youth team have progressed to the 4th round of the FA Youth Cup with a fine 3-0 victory over Luton Town at Kenilworth Road.

Leeds United had already beaten Walsall and Darlington’s academy teams in the 2nd and 1st round respectively and now move on as they aim to reach the final for the first time in 10 years.

Academy boss Neil Thompson was naturally delighted, as Tom Elliot (2) and Fabian Delph scored as Leeds comfortably dispatched the club whose senior team were relegated to League One along with United last season.

Thompson told leedsunited.com: ‘We passed it well, dealt with what they threw at us, and could have won by more in the end.

‘The lads created chances and showed a good work-ethic.’

The FA Youth cup has been run by The FA (boo!) since 1951 with one of the most notable finals coming in 1993. Leeds United’s youth team defeated Manchester United over two legs, a Manchester side containing the likes of Gary Neville, Robbie Savage and David Beckham. The 1997 Leeds winning side fielded Paul Robinson, Jonathan Woodgate, Harry Kewell, Alan Smith and Steven McPhail!

Congratulations goes to the Leeds United youth team!
