Explained: What’s the latest on Barry Douglas?

|

Leeds United could be without Barry Douglas ahead of Saturday’s meeting with Queens Park Rangers, with Marcelo Bielsa revealing the 30-year-old is struggling with a knee injury. Ezgjan Alioski (side) is an injury doubt, but Douglas may not be fit enough to replace him.

Bielsa said in Thursday’s press conference: “Bamford has a little problem in the ankle. Alioski and Douglas have some little problems as well. Douglas in the knee and Alioski in the side.” Douglas missed Leeds’ 0-0 draw with Sheffield Wednesday (October 26) and faces a race to be fit in time for the weekend.

The Scotland international has made seven Championship appearances this season, racking up 332 minutes of playing time. Douglas was a regular at the beginning of the campaign, but he’s played second fiddle to Alioski in the last two months.

Since August, Douglas has been an unused substitute on four occasions and hasn’t started a league game. He’s been reduced to featuring from the bench and has only been given 74 minutes on the pitch. Bielsa stopped short of ruling him out against QPR, so a late fitness test may be given before a decision is made.

Bielsa will be hoping one of his left-backs is able to face the Hoops.
