Former Leeds man Noel Whelan has moved to support Ezgjan Alioski despite recent fan criticism of his performances.

The winger has had an okay start to the season but with more draws creeping in of late he has seen increased scrutiny put on his performances.

Certainly, he seems most at risk of getting dropped for poor form but Whelan has suggested that he’s not that bad and does still offer things even in a poor patch.

Via BBC Radio Leeds, he said:

“He does work hard for the team.

“He does his defensive work very well.

“When he gets forward, his decisions, crossing, needs to be better quality.”

Whelan was speaking after the narrow Hull win which saw some fans criticise the Macedonian for not doing more.

Whelan seems to think it is unjust, though, and I reckon that Bielsa will be thinking similar.

He’s a loyal manager and respectful man and so I doubt that a couple of games that have been below par will force him into wielding the axe.

We’ll soon see if that is the case against Brentford this weekend.
