Ex-pro suggests Leeds should cash-in on academy graduate to land Whites-linked talent – report

Former Leeds defender Danny Mills has told Football Insider that Victor Orta should look to cash-in on Jack Clarke, in order to fund a move for Liverpool winger Harry Wilson.

The 22-year-old enjoyed a prolific campaign on loan in the Championship with Derby County as they reached the Play-Off Final, but has no guarantees of a future back on Merseyside just yet.

It is understood multiple sides including Wolverhampton Wanderers, Brighton & Hove Albion and those in the Bundesliga and La Liga are interested in taking the Wales international away from Anfield, after it was suggested the Champions League winners would sell the 9-cap talent for £25million after he scored 18 goals and assisted a further six across all competitions while at Pride Park.

Reds boss Jurgen Klopp, though, may not be open to selling the Liverpool academy graduate just yet, and may instead push for the Wrexham-born wide man to go back out on loan for another year.

They would still demand at least £4million to take Wilson on loan, and Mills feels we should be looking to flog our academy graduate Clarke for £12million in order to fund the move, having been linked with Wilson in April.

“Leeds were third in the league, they were not far off automatic promotion,” Mills said. “They can go one step further by spending £10million and bringing three quality players in.

“They have to spend money, unless they have someone from the academy who is a creative midfielder who can score 15 goals next season, or a striker who can score 25.

“If there is no money to spend, they could sell Jack Clarke for £12million and use the proceeds to bring in Harry Wilson on loan and a couple of others.

“They could get Wilson for £4million for the season if Liverpool don’t want to sell him, and he is someone proven in the Championship who will get you goals, take brilliant set pieces and create chances.”
