With Leeds United’s key midfielder Kalvin Phillips being a talking point from the draw against Nottingham Forest at the weekend, the 23-year-old’s performance against Salford City in the opening round of this year’s EFL Cup had him amongst the headlines once again.
Taking a relatively comfortable 3-0 victory on Tuesday night at Moor Lane, we were ultimately too strong for our League Two hosts and there were plenty of positive points as late loan arrival Eddie Nketiah got himself up and running on his club debut.
Phillips’ performance in the middle of the pitch certainly had fans in awe on social media though and he took the Man of the Match award in the eyes of many.
With strong speculation over the summer linking him with a move to Aston Villa, as well as Burnley and Tottenham Hotspur, for a period of time, the latest suggestions that a new deal is close for the lad is the news that everyone wants.
Kalvin Phillips is the best player in the world … don’t pass it on, he is ours … what a man
