Paul Heckingbottom doesn’t really do himself any favours and he’s put himself in the firing line once again.
I do try my best to like Hecky and defend him when I’m talking about Leeds but it’s so difficult when, recently, he’s looked out of his depth and made comments suggesting that he doesn’t really feel we can turn it around.
The latest thing he’s said, then, is that Caleb Ekuban is in the side on merit ahead of Pierre-Michel Lasogga despite the former’s finishing being about as calm as the Irish Sea mid-winter.
Let’s take a look at those comments and the reaction:
More backing for Ekuban from Heckingbottom. "Every player wants to do well, no matter what anyone says. The other players love him." Says he's been in ahead of Lasogga on merit. #lufc

But not on goals 10-1 to Lassoga in that department

No disrespect to Ekuban but I'd much rather see @Lasogga10 starting and playing, we may not have scored but for me the game changed for the better when he came on against Fulham.

Lasogga has way more goals than Ekuban #heckout

Been here before with the likeable person syndrome…..urm TC. Iโm sure heโs a lovely fella but we are a football club that needs a striker who can score

The Verdict
Sorry Paul but this is just a silly thing to say.
Fair enough the players like him because he seems a nice guy but that’s not enough to play for our side. Keep him around the dressing room as a mascot if we have to but if he’s not good enough he should be out.
