‘Disgrace’, ‘inexcusable’: These Leeds fans left seething after gut wrenching display v Derby

|

Well, that was little less hectic than the last time we met.

In what has become a rather annoying habit for Leeds United this season, they once again failed to make use of their dominance on the stat sheet and it ended up costing them dearly. A last-minute equaliser from Chris Martin meant that both teams shared the spoils, although it could have been a whole lot different.

Leeds took the lead midway through the first half in rather fortuitous circumstances, when a Stuart Dallas shot ricocheted off the post and bounced over the line with the last touch coming off Derby’s Max Lowe.

As usual, Leeds had many chances to put the game beyond reach, but there will never be a greater opportunity than the one they had with twenty minutes remaining. After a brilliant run by Patrick Bamford, he was hauled down in the box by Matthew Clarke and the referee pointed to the spot. Up stepped Mateusz Klich and despite sending the keeper the wrong way, he sent it wide of the uprights and the score remained at 1-0.

With time winding down and Leeds hoping to see the game out, Chris Martin’s first time finish past Kiko Casilla in the 91st minute to leave the Elland Road faithful seething.
