Loads of Leeds supporters have been reacting on social media after the Yorkshire Evening Post claimed Spanish third division side Cultural y Deportiva Leonesa have approached Carlos Corberan over making our Under 23s head coach their next manager.
The Segunda Division B outfit are set to part ways with current boss Jose Manuel Aira on June 30, after he failed to qualify for the Play-Offs, which had been outlined as one of the essential factors in his continuation at the Estadio Reino de Leon.
However, the 43-year-old’s efforts fell narrowly short, with Leonesa concluding the regular season one place outside of the qualifying spots occupied by Atletico and Real Madrid’s youth sides and SD Ponferradina.
Corberan, on the other hand, enjoyed a boisterous 2018/19 season in West Yorkshire, with the Spaniard guiding our youth side to the Professional Development League North Division and National titles, and reached the Semi-Final of the Premier League Cup.
The YEP, however, understand he is now weighing up his future amid interest from Leonesa, although the Whites are keen to see that he remains in his duel-role position at Elland Road, where he doubles as a member of Marcelo Bielsa’s backroom staff.
Corberan is “highly regarded” by figures at United, who will fight to retain the 36-year-old, once tipped to be in the frame to succeed Bielsa if the Argentine had not agreed to honour the second year of his contract.
Judging by how news of Leonesa’s interest was received online, most of the Elland Road faithful would also like to see Corberan retained…
No we need to keep him at club, he’ll be our head coach next season/when Don Marcelo goes home.

Can we have some good news Phil? It’s all getting a bit much.

NOOOOOOOOOO!! This would be a disaster

Just another thing for the club to deal with. Bielsa allowed Carlos into his group, not many if any get that honour.
It’s an easy choice for Carlos imo, a further year with a giant of the game must be the right career choice.— paul warrick (LUFC) (@paulwarrick3) June 9, 2019
We let him go and I’ll be gutted. As we all know He’s part of our future Paul.

Needs to stay and take over from MB when the time comes, be a big mistake to let him walk

CC is the future and he’s quite literally soaking up what’s spilling from Marcelo Bielsa’s brain, they can politely jog on!

I genuinely don’t think this is a tough decision for Corberan Phil. He’s fairly young still in coaching terms and another year with Bielsa will only add to his resume.. He’s seeing the fruits of labor at #lufc now also, which should maintain his motivation for his role here.

I know personal ambition and all but, if I had the chance to spend another year under Bielsa, I’d take that before dropping into management.

MB won’t be here forever and what Carlos has done with the academy is fantastic. He’s the next Leeds Manager in waiting imo. Another season with MB will be worth more than leaving for that job. Get him tied down Radz.

Why the worry? Once QSI take us over and Bielsa gets us Promoted theres already a ready made replacement…..Guardiola
