Everyone knows the story of striker Caleb Ekuban and his time at Elland Road following his arrival at Leeds United from Chievo.

The 25-year-old was full of effort, and in many ways he’s become a little bit of a cult hero for fans, but the overriding memory is a player who struggled to hit the target as he departed at the end of August on a loan spell with Trabzonspor having only scored twice for us.

His spell in Turkey has gone better and he’s registered four goals in nine starting appearances and 12 substitute showings – Whoscored – and his form saw him called into the Ghanian national side this month, where he found the back of the net on his substitute debut.

It’s believed that Trabzonspor have a buy clause in place for a reported £900,000 and outlet Sporx have carried quotes from director Haluk Sahin who appears to be keen on using that option at the end of the campaign.

“Ekuban is very valuable, very dedicated. We will sit down and talk with him at the end of the season. He wants to continue his journey with us. Our board of directors will evaluate our economic conditions at the end of the season and make the decision.”

Despite some calls for him to be given a second chance, I think most accept his time with us is also up, especially if we do gain promotion into the Premier League this year as he’s already well down the pecking list, and the vast majority of fans will be looking for more game time for our Academy strikers in the future given how highly rated the likes of Ryan Edmondson and Kun Temenuzhkov are to name just two.
