Derry signs for Crystal Palace

Shaun Derry has completed his transfer to Crystal Palace.

The midfielder who saw his loan with Palace end last weekend was told that this would not be extended so it was a permanent deal or nothing.

Talks continued this week and they came to a head today and the 30-year-old completed his move to Selhurst Park this afternoon, where he has signed a three year contract, he will now be reunited with his former Sheffield United manager Neil Warnock on a permanent basis.

Derry was voted the Leeds player of the year in 2006 but last played for Leeds more than 12 months ago as a heel injury kept him out for 10 months, this heel injury kept him out until November, when he then joined Palace to regain match fitness, but he never returned.

Dennis Wise had asked him to return to Elland Road to play against Oldham on New Years Day but he declined, saying he wanted to stay at Palace. This angered Wise, and he had this to say to leedsunited.com after Derry’s transfer: “Shaun had made it clear he wanted to leave after the message he left me. He’s gone now.”
