After completing his move to Crystal Palace Shaun Derry feels that he can finally put to bed the thought that he was the infamous ‘Leeds United mole’.

Last season the Leeds team was leaked to Palace (who were at that time a former club of his) who were then managed by Peter Taylor, with this leak the day before the match when the two met at Elland Road.

At the time Dennis Wise said that the mole, whoever he was (although he never revealed who it was) would never play for the club again, and the indication on various websites and in the media has always been that it was Derry.

However he feels that Wise’s request for him to have returned to Elland Road to have played for Leeds on New Years Day vindicated him, even though he refused the request. Derry told the Yorkshire Post: “I was disappointed with accusations that I was the mole. It was in the papers and there were question marks and fingers were pointed at me.

“But it was finally put to rest when Dennis Wise asked me to go back because he had said that the mole would never pull on a Leeds shirt again.”

The former Leeds player of the year has had a running feud with Wise since he refused to play in that match and the Leeds boss had a parting shot on Tuesday when he left, although Derry has also got in a dig by praising his new boss Neil Warnock.
